By driving a long sampling member 16 with a substantially U-shaped cross section and an enclosing member 18 enclosing the opened side face of the sampling member 16 into an objective ground for investigation, soil is taken in a sampling zone A surrounded by the sampling member 16 and the enclosing member 18. By injecting a hardener into a hardening zone B secured at the tip end of the sampling zone A, the soil in the position is hardened. Thereafter, the soil in the sampling zone A is taken out and taken away from the ground together with the sampling member 16 and the enclosing member 18.
