PURPOSE: To mass-produce articles and mechanize the operation, by applying color decoration as a sand blast protective film on a glass or pottery surface and by engraving and grinding the surface by sand blast.

CONSTITUTION: Onto a surface of glass or pottery 1 is applied gold powder or a paste gold baked pattern 2 around which a sand blast protective film 3 is bonded. Sand blast is carried out around the paste gold baked pattern 2, thereafter the sand blast protective film 3 is removed, the surface of the baked pattern 2 is ground to be brightened, and at the same time a mat engraving pattern 4 applied around the pattern 2 is engraved. Thus as the sand blast protective film the paste gold baked pattern can be ground and engraved simultaneously, so that the articles can be mass- produced and the grinding can be mechanized.
