PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of sanding in a sanding head for grinding the edge of formed material by pressing horizontally a downward directed sanding wheel driving and suspended motor against the lower end of a longitudinal support shaft of a sanding head body.

CONSTITUTION: Compressed air is sent from a compressor not shown into a sanding wheel T through a rotary valve 34, a longitudinal spindle hole 32' and a lateral hole 36 and jetted from the outer peripheral surface of the sanding wheel, while compressed air having pressure according to the quality of work is supplied to a cylinder 31 at the lower end of a support shaft 26 by a press mechanism B to press the cylinder rightward D. And a press direction converter C reads out the peripheral shape of the work W through a NC unit to direct a servo motor 39 and pivot the support shaft 26 through a gear 40, worm 41 and worm wheel 38 so that the press direction D of the sanding wheel T is maintained always orthogonally to the work W. Thus, the efficiency of operation can be improved.
