Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A saponin, extracted from spinach with a hydrophilic solvent and having about 0.16-0.42 Rf value in silica gel thin-layer chromatography (solvent = chloroform : methanol : water = 6:4:1) with about 33-48mN/m surface tension of a 0.03% solution thereof.
USE: A surfactant for foods, medicines, quasi-drugs and cosmetics.
PREPARATION: Spinach is extracted with a hydrophilic solvent (e.g. a mixed solvent of methanol : water = 5:1) and a fraction having about 0.16-0.42 Rf value in thin-layer chromatography (solvent = chloroform : methanol : water = 6:4:1) with about 33-48mN/m surface tension of a 0.03% solution thereof is separated from the resultant extract solution.
