Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute the conversion of a log by favorable yielding by taking the maximum warping height position into consideration by a method wherein the log is held at positions, which are obtained by correcting temporary center positions with a formula in response to the maximum warping height position and the magnitudes of the maximum warping height, the top end diameter and the butt end diameter of the log, as actual sawing centers.
SOLUTION: In order to saw a bent log, the stepping of a sawing device is determined by estimating the size of a rectangular timber in proportion to the top end diameter on the small diametral end side between the butt ends of the log. Further, a clamping device holds positions, which are obtained by correcting near center positions of one or both the butt ends of the log or temporary center positions with a formula: k1×H+k2×(D2-D1), in which H is the maximum warping height, D1 is the top end diameter of the log, D2 is the butt end diameter of the log and k1 and k2 are constants. Concretely, k1=1.0 and k2=0.5 when H<20 mm under the condition that the maximum warping height position is near the middle of the log; k1=k2=0.5 when H≥20 mm under the same conditions as described above; k1=0.6 and k2=0.75 under the condition that the maximum warping height position lies near the intermediate between the middle of the log and its butt end or lies near the intermediate between the middle of the log and its top end, as actual sawing centers.
