Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scale prevention method and a scale inhibitor which can effectively prevent generation of scales of calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate in a high-hardness cooling water system having a calcium hardness of 500 mg CaCO/L or more.SOLUTION: A copolymer prepared by copolymerizing (i) a polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid with (ii) 2-(meth)acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, having a molar ratio of (i) to (ii) of 50:50 to 90:10, and having a weight average molecular weight of 5,000 or more and less than 10,000, and 2-phosphono-1,2,4-butanetricarboxylic acid are added to a cooling water system.
