Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the thermal efficiency of an engine by enabling to open and close scavenging or exhaust holes in an optional timing without being restricted by the movement of a piston for delaying the timing to start exhaustion as possible.
CONSTITUTION: When gas is expanded in a cylinder liner 2, scavenging holes (or exhaust holes) 1 are closed by valve bodies 4. At a fixed opening time, when a large gear 10 is turned to separate the valve bodies 4 from an annular member 3 as shown in dotted imaginary lines, the scavenging holes 1 are kept opened for performing scavenging in the cylinder liner 2.
