On the screen 1 of a display device, A inspection ranges 2 are set corresponding to A pieces as a group of independent patterns formed on a green sheet. Further, B divided areas 3 obtained by dividing the inspection range to specific size are set by inspection ranges. The pattern inspection device when deciding that one divided area is good displays the area 3 on the screen 1 corresponding to it in green, but when deciding that the divided area is not good displays the corresponding area 3 in red. Thus, results of good/no-good decisions are displayed in different colors by the areas 3 and then the position of a defective piece on the sheet and a defective position in this piece are displayed on the screen 1.
