PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screening method of a substance reducing fat in the body.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a screening method of a substance that reduces fat in the body comprising: (a) administering a candidate substance after giving a high alanine-containing food to a nonhuman animal specifically defective for skeletal muscle GR (glucocorticoid receptor) genes; (b) measuring an FGF21 expression level within the body of the animal; and (c) determining that the candidate substance reduces fat in the body, if the FGF21 expression level increases compared to before the administration of the candidate substance.SELECTED DRAWING: None
