To reduce abrasion by a seal ring on a surface constituting a back pressure chamber for supporting a thrust load acting on a turning scroll of a scroll compressor.
An annular groove 6e is disposed in an end plate section 6a of the turning scroll, the back pressure chamber 19 is formed between the section and a middle housing 13 for supporting the end plate section 6a, and a high pressure fluid is introduced by a pressure introduction port 6d to the back pressure chamber 19, thereby offsetting the thrust load generated by a compression reaction. Seal rings 11 and 12 are disposed for increasing sealing performance of the back pressure chamber 19. These seal rings generate abrasion on the facing surface of a middle housing slidably contacting with them, so that the facing surface is provided with an annular sliding plate 20 made of hard material. The back pressure chamber 19 can be formed on the middle housing 13, but in this case, a hard sliding plate 20 is disposed on the back surface of the end plate section 6a of the turning scroll 6.
