Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain normal atmospheric pressure in a seal assembly of an oil film bearing for rolls of a tolling mill irrespective of the condition of a bearing oil exhausting system.
SOLUTION: In an oil film bearing used for rolls of a rolling mill, each roll has a neck including a tapered part 10. The tapered part 10 extends from the end face 12 of the roll till a diameterically shrunk portion supported rotatably in a non-rotational bearing snap ring 22. The snap ring 22 is set apart from the end face 12 in the axial direction so that there a circuit gap is formed, and in the gap, a circular seal assembly 24 is installed. The seal assembly 24 includes a rigid, circular seal end plate 46 to be fixed to the snap ring 22. The seal end plate 46 is located in a position to be associated with a relevant elastic seal member so that the gap is partitioned into an inner chamber 26 adjacent to the roll end face and an outer chamber adjacent to the snap ring 22. Aerating connection between the inner 26 and outer chambers 28 is provided in each upper quarter division of the seal end plate.
