Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal material that is superior in durability together with a low sliding torque and high sealing properties, and to provide a sealing mechanism.SOLUTION: The seal material 10 for sealing a portion between a hole 31 of a structure 30 and a shaft 32 inserted into the hole 31, comprises at least one groove 16, 18 which has a ring-like shape so that an inner peripheral surface 11 thereof slides with a shaft 32 when the shaft 32 makes relative movement to the structure 30, which is composed of an elastic material provided at least on the inner peripheral surface 11 side with a sliding layer 12 in which a fiber and an elastomer are integrated, and which is provided, respectively, on an outer surface 15 and an inner surface 17 in a state of being mounted on the structure 30. The depth of the groove 16 on one surface 15 is more than half of the length L of the seal member 10 in the axial direction of the shaft 32, and the depth of the groove 18 on the other surface 17 is formed such that an end position of the groove 18 is the same with or longer than an end position of the groove 16.
