PURPOSE: To provide a sealant comprising a specific aq. emulsion excellent in waterproofing operability and capable of forming a cured resin layer having excellent water resistance, durability, mechanical strength and adhesion, by preparing a specific aq. emulsion having a crosslinked structure as the essential component.
CONSTITUTION: A (meth)acrylic ester of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or CH3; and R is 1W18C alkyl) is emulsion-copolymerized with an unsatd. monomer having a reactive functional group and represented by formula IIWVIII [R4 is 2W4C alkylene; R5 is a direct bond, 1W3C alkylene, or (substd.)phenylene; R6 is O or NH; R7 is H or 1W5C alkylol; R8 is R7 or 1W5C alkyl; R9 is 1W4C alkylene; A is methylene or CO, B is CH2O or COOH; D is H, 1W3C alkyl, COOH, or a group of formula IX or X; E is H, 1W3C alkyl, or a group of formula XI; t1 is 1W20;l t2 is 0 or 1; and t3 is 0W10] at a wt. ratio of 99/1W60/40 by using an emulsifier such as a polyoxyalkylene polyester of an ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid in the presence of 0.1W5wt.% polymn. initiator to prepare an aq. emulsion having a concn. of 10W60wt.%. A sealant comprising the above-mentioned emulsion as the essential component is prepared.
