To provide a sealing material that has a low friction coefficient and excellent wear resistance and that can realize a much prolonged service life and much higher reliability and to provide a scroll fluid machine provided with the sealing material.
The sealing material is composed of a composite material comprising a rigid material having an old Mohs hardness of 6-8 in the form of a powder having an average particle size of 100 μm or less and a polytetrafluoroethylene resin and/or a tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoroalkoxyethylene resin wherein the rigid material is one or more kinds of materials selected from the group consisting of diatomaceous earth, tourmaline, a silicate mineral and a metal oxide; and the tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoroalkoxyethylene resin has a molecular weight of 5,000,000 or more and at the same time is made as a non-thermoplastic resin.
