To provide a sealing method of an image display device of low cost by which an appropriate amount of a sealing material can be evenly applied on the whole circumference of the substrate without an excess or shortage.
This sealing method of an image display device seales the whole circumference of peripheries of both substrates by a sealing material in order to form a vacuum space for electron emission between the two rectangular opposed substrates. The inclination of the liquid sealing material coated on each of the substrates or filled between both the substrates are detected by inclination detection means 50, 61a-61d, and based on the detection result, the existence of inclination in the sealing material existing at each side of the substrates is determined, and if the determination result is negative, the substrates are made to incline and the liquid sealing material is made to flow from the excess portion to the shortage portion, and the inclination of the sealing material is corrected.
