Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure workability and to prevent the generation of internal flaws at the time of executing Mannesmann piercing of high carbon steel.
SOLUTION: A billet which is made by continuously casting the high-carbon steel containing, by weight, 0.60 to 1.20% C and ≤0.015% P and has P content in the center segragated part satisfies the equation; [P(%)]≤{-0.0545×[C(%)]+0.0754} is manufactured as the base stock for piercing. In this way, the seamless steel tube of the high-carbon steel reducing the generation of the internal flaws is obtained.
