Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the energy efficiency of a seawater desalination apparatus.SOLUTION: The seawater desalination apparatus 100 of the present invention for retrieving freshwater by removing the salt content from seawater is furnished with: a pump 1 for discharging seawater following the intake thereof; a reverse osmotic membrane 4 for removing, on an occasion where a portion of the seawater discharged from the pump 1 is permeated therethrough, the salt content from the seawater so as to provide freshwater; and a pressure boosting unit 30 driven by a working fluid consisting of a body of seawater discharged without being transmitted through the reverse osmotic membrane for boosting the pressure of the discharged seawater and then discharging the same, whereas the discharged seawater is introduced to the reverse osmotic membrane 4 or a reverse osmotic membrane 4a different from the reverse osmotic membrane.
