Abstract:
To provide a secondary transfer device which has a function to temporarily reduce nip pressure when front and rear ends of a paper sheet passes through a transfer nip, and yet can be reduced in size.SOLUTION: A secondary transfer device 30 is provided, comprising a pressing/releasing unit 50 configured to move a secondary transfer roller 41 at a secondary transfer position between a pressing position of pressing the secondary transfer roller against an opposing roller 28 with an intermediate transfer belt 21 in between and a separated position at a distance from the intermediate transfer belt, a first drive unit 52 for driving the pressing/releasing unit, a high-speed pressure reduction unit 70 configured to temporarily reduce nip pressure exerted by the secondary transfer roller in the pressing position when front and rear ends of a paper sheet pass through, and a second drive unit for driving the high-speed pressure reduction unit, where the pressing/releasing unit and the high-speed pressure reduction unit are disposed on a side opposite to the intermediate transfer belt with respect to the secondary transfer position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
