To reduce sediment transportation cost and avoid a situation in which a sediment disposal site is flooded with a large quantity of water, by increasing the sludge content of pumped sediment in a transport pipe so as to effectively decrease the quantity of unnecessarily transported water, in a sediment transportation system which is equipped with a barge, a sludge unloading workboat and the transport pipe elongated from the sludge unloading workboat to the sediment disposal site, and which transports the sediment stored in the barge sequentially via the sludge unloading workboat and the transport pipe by pumping.
This sediment transportation system comprises: a sediment storage tank T which is mounted to the sludge unloading workboat A; a sediment pressure pump P which is mounted to the workboat A the suction part Pi of which is connected to the bottom of the tank T, and the ejection part Po of which is connected to the upstream end of the transport pipe PL; a sediment sucking-up means S which enables the stored sediment in the barge B to be sucked up in a state of being mixed with water, and charged into the tank T; and a supernatant-liquid discharging means D for discharging a supernatant liquid in the tank T out of the tank T.
