To provide a seismic strengthening construction method capable of imparting high aseismatic performance to an existing building of a rigid-framed structure of reinforced concrete construction or steel-framed reinforced concrete construction by a lower construction cost and a smaller amount of construction work.
A seismic strengthening skeleton 24 is constructed in close vicinity to an existing building 10 of a rigid-framed structure of reinforced concrete construction or steel-framed reinforced concrete construction. An existing external column 12 of the existing building 10 and a reinforcing column 20 of the seismic strengthening skeleton 24 are not joined together, but an existing external beam 14 of the existing building 10 and a reinforcing steel-frame beam 22 of the seismic strengthening skeleton 24 are joined together. A location of the reinforcing column 20 connected with the reinforcing steel-frame beam 22 comprises a part of reinforced concrete construction and a steel pipe 58 for covering the part, and the reinforcing steel-frame beam 22 is connected to the reinforcing column 20 by being welded to the steel pipe 58. Thus, the existing building 10 is seismically strengthened by making the seismic strengthening skeleton 24 bear a horizontal force during earthquakes.
