To provide a selection assist device of an automatic transmission capable of providing a selective lever operation force characteristic corresponding to a request, by expanding the flexibility of a layout by miniaturization of a selective lever, while enabling range switching operation in fail by the mechanical connection of the selective lever and a selection position-switching device.
A controller 3 is arranged for controlling driving of an assist actuator 2, and a position sensor 6 is arranged for detecting a relative displacement quantity. The controller 3 has a first driving command value arithmetic operation part 31 for arithmetically operating a driving command value so that relative displacement approaches 0. A relative displacement abnormality detecting part 33 is arranged for determining abnormality of the position sensor 6 from the relative displacement quantity on the basis of a realizable range for allowing the relative displacement. A second driving command value arithmetic operation part 32 is arranged for switching the driving command value to a value of a driving stopping state when determined as abnormal.
