Title:
SELECTIVE BROMINATION FOR PARA POSITION OF PHENOL AND PHENOL DERIVATIVES, PHENOL DERIVATIVES BROMINATED IN PARA POSITION AND SOLUTION THEREFOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS63215643
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
A highly selective bromination process is described, by means of which substantially pure p-bromophenols can be obtained, by brominating a phenol derivative, for example a compound of the formula: wherein R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkyl aryl or heteroaryl group; and R2, R3 and R4 each independently represents hydrogen, alkyl alkoxy, aryl, hydroxy, methylenedioxy, amino, acylamide or halogen or two R2, R3 and R4 together form a naphthalenic residue. The process is carried out by reacting with bromine or bromine chloride in an ester as the solvent, at temperatures comprised between about -20 DEG C and about +50 DEG C. Bromination solutions useful for carrying out this process are also disclosed.
