Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain high-purity hydrogen gas, in high efficiency, by using a plurality of adsorption columns packed with adsorbents having selective adsorptivity to the impurity components in the hydrogen-containing feed gas, and treating the feed gas by a specific process.

CONSTITUTION: Plural adsorption columns 33, 35, etc. packed with adsorbent composed of calcined zeolite-activated carbon composite having selective adsorptivity to the impurity components of the feed gas are used for the selective concentration of hydrogen gas. A hydrogen-containing feed gas 37 is introduced into the adsorption column 33 under pressure to effect the selective adsorption and removal of impurity components and obtain the purified hydrogen gas 38 as the product. The valve 3 is opened to connect the adsorption column 33 to the adsorption column 35 after the completion of the product gas compression in the column 35, and the pressures in the columns are balanced with each other. The adsorption column 33 is evacuated to release the residual gas, and the adsorbent is regenerated by washing with the product gas. The adsorption column 33 is pressurized with the product gas, connected with the adsorption column 35 of the pressurized state after the completion of the adsorption process to equalize the pressures in both columns, and is charged with the feed gas 37. The above procedures are repeated.
