Abstract:

PURPOSE: To effect the separation and recovery of Sc in high efficiency, by treating a solution containing a slight amount of Sc with an ether, containing with a specific chelate resin and eluting adsorbed Sc from the resin.

CONSTITUTION: A 4W12N aqueous solution of HC1 containing a large amount of iron and a slight amount of Sc existing in the leaching residue of an ore of W, Al, U, etc., is added with 1W3 times amount of an ether (e.g. diethyl ether), shaken at room temperature and separated into liquid phases. The phase of an aqueous solution of HC1 is added with an alkali to adjust the pH of the solution to a level to enable the adsorption of Sc (pH1W3). The prepared treatment liquid is made to contact with a chelate resin having an iminodiacetate group of formula (X is H, 1W4C alkyl or alkali metal selected from Na and K) (or its alkali metal salt) at 5W100°C to effect the adsorption and separation of Sc. The resin is brought into contact with an elutant consisting of an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or nitric acid having a concentration of 0.5W3N at 10W50°C for ≤30min to elute the adsorbed Sc from the resin.
