Title:
SELF-ALIGNING TRIMMING PUNCH FOR REMOVING FINS OF CAST PARTS AND METHOD FOR REMOVING FINS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3968448
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trimming punch capable of evenly removing as many fins as possible in one process without damaging cast parts and/or their openings.
SOLUTION: When cast metal parts are produced for manufacturing machinery, an unwanted substance called burrs remains in the opening of the parts and must be removed. In the method of the present invention, the cast parts are placed on a platen of a trimming press fitted with a multi-part punch. The punch is composed to be self-aligned with the opening of the cast parts so as to act to evenly remove the fins. Further, the present invention relates to punches. First a stationary punch breaks through the fins, thereby removing a large part of the fins inside the opening of the cast parts and then a movable punch, namely a self-aligning punch is self-aligned with the opening of the cast parts to act to remove the remaining fins. The punch of the present invention may be provided with a mounting base for fitting the multi-part punch to the plate, namely the platen of the trimming press.
