To provide a self drilling tapping screw for thin steel sheet provided with a torque control function capable of surely preventing a female thread from being destroyed by an excessive tightening torque and having a high retention force to a thin steel sheet.

A welding protuberance 10 having a specified size is provided on the center of the top face of a screw head section 9 of the self drilling tapping screw 2. A thin shank 12 formed integrally to a separate head section 3 including an engagement hole 11 to be engaged with a turning tool is welded to the center of the top face of the screw head section 9 by resistance weld of the welding protuberance 10, and a joint 13 to be broken at a specified tightening torque is formed. When the self drilling tapping screw 2 is driven and the torque reaches a specified torque, the joint 13 is broken, and the separate head section 3 is separated.
