Abstract:

PURPOSE: To realize a fault recovery operation in the self-healing ring system even in circumstances where the synchronous transfer mode and the asynchronous transfer mode exist together.
CONSTITUTION: In the self-healing ring system for a ring network where the synchronous transfer mode and the asynchronous transfer mode exist together, a transmission node 10 and a reception node 30 are provided with branch insertion type multiplexing systems (ADM) 11 and 31 for synchronous transfer mode, a branch insertion type multiplexing systems (ADM) 13 and 33 for asynchronous transfer mode, and common schedule control parts 15 and 35 for adjustment between both transfer modes. A transfer mode identifier is set in the overhead part on a physical transmission frame, and the transfer mode between nodes is discriminated by this transfer mode identifier. In the case of a network fault, selectors 32 and 34 attached to branch insertion type multiplexing systems (ADM) corresponding to respective transfer modes are made perform the fault recovery operations of pertinent transfer modes to recover the fault in both transfer modes.
