Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a self-polishing antifouling marine coating material compris ing rosin-based components, specific lactam monomers as binders, copolymers of acrylate and styrene or the like, a sparingly soluble metalliferous pigment and a marine biocide, which can provide highly antifouling coating films.
CONSTITUTION: The objective self-polishing antifouling marine coating material which can provide highly antifouling coating films without using organic tin compounds is obtained by mixing, (A) a first component consisting of one or more rosin-based components, (B) as binders, copolymers prepared by polymerizing (i) 5-40 wt.% of lactam monomers represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl or an alkenyl; either of R1 and R2 is an alkenyl; R3 is methylene or carbonyl; (n) is a positive integer), (ii) 46-95 wt.% of an acrylate, (iii) 0-30 wt.% of at least one comonomer of a 1-8C alkylmethacrylate and ethylene or the like, (C) at least one sparingly soluble metalliferous pigment, and (D) at least one marine biocide, which may be identical to the pigment.
