Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check the quality of a side brush easily.SOLUTION: A self-travelling vacuum cleaner includes: a housing that collects dust through a suction port while self-travelling on a floor surface; a side brush provided on a surface opposed to the floor surface of the housing for guiding dust on the floor surface to the suction port while rotating; a floor surface detection sensor for applying light onto the floor surface, receiving the reflection light, and optically detecting the presence or absence of the floor surface; and a control unit for controlling a rotational operation of the side brush, and a self-travelling and dust collection operation of the housing in response to the output from the floor surface detection sensor. The side brush includes a plurality of brush bundles radially provided at the lower end of a rotation shaft provided so as to be orthogonal to the surface opposed to the floor surface. The floor surface detection sensor is arranged so that the brush bundles intermittently prevent the optical detection operation of the floor surface detection sensor when the side brush rotates around the rotation shaft. In response to the output from the floor surface detection sensor, the control unit determines a morphological change of the brush bundles.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
