To provide a photoelectric transfer element having superior photoelectric transfer characteristics with respect to the photoelectric transfer element which uses as a photoelectric transfer material a colorant having specific oxidation potential and specific reduction potential.
This photoelectric transfer element uses a semiconductor electrode which contains at least one kind or more of colorants in which the oxidation potential is 1.2 V or less relative to a saturated calomel electrode, preferably 1.05-0.4 V and the reduction potential is -1.6 V or more, preferably -1.05 to -0.6 V relative to the saturated calomel electrode, in the semiconductor electrode which is composed of a substrate having conductivity on the surface, a semiconductor layer covered on its surface, and a colorant adhered to the surface of the semiconductor layer. Thereby, a photoelectric transfer element having excellent transfer efficiency, low cost, and stability is obtained.
