To provide a semiconductor for a photoelectric conversion element, a photoelectric conversion element, and a solar cell having high photoelectric conversion efficiency and excellent durability.

The surface of the semiconductor contains a compound shown by the formula 1. In the formula 1, X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6 independently represent oxygen atom, sulfur atom, or selen atom, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 independently represent substituent, R6, R7, R8, R9 independently represent hydrogen atom or substituent, L1 and L2 independently represent divalent linking group, and x and y independently represent either 0, 1, or 2.
