To provide a semiconductor planar light source of high brightness which provides a luminous color of intermediate or mixed color.
A semiconductor planer light source is provided with a film-like elastic fluorescent cover 8, which comprises a translucent resin base material and phosphor mixed in the resin base material. The fluorescent cover 8 is secured to the other main surface 1b of a light guide plate 1, while facing a reflection film 6. The light irradiated from a semiconductor light emitting element 4 is guided from a side surface 1c to the light guide plate 1, and reflected on the reflective film 6, and then released from the other main surface 1b side of the light guide plate 1 before being directed into the fluorescent cover 8. The phosphor mixed in the fluorescent cover 8 absorbs the light passing the fluorescent cover 8 and generates a light of wavelength which is different from that of absorbed light, prior to releasing it from the fluorescent cover 8.
