To minimize the waveform distortion of the whole of the drive of a three-level inverter circuit, by reading from a time-data table a variable concerning the outputting time of its state at a modulation factor, and by generating gate pulse signals based on the data obtained through setting the value of the variable to a waveform-data table.
After inputting to a microprocessor 43 a driving-frequency command 45 of a three-level inverter circuit, it is A/D-converted by an A/D converter 46. Then the A/D-converted command is converted into a modulation- factor voltage command 48 by the V/f converting function of a V/f converter 47. Then, based on the driving-frequency command 45 and the modulation-factor voltage command 48, a state output time data table 49 for outputting the outputting-time of one control-period portion and the state is read. The data read from the data table 49 are inputted to a pulse converter 50 to output the data as gate pulse signals 44 from the converter 50 to a gate driving circuit 42. As a result, the waveform distortion of the whole drive of the three-level inverter circuit can be minimized.
