PURPOSE: To obtain a separater whose life is long and whose utilization rate of active substance is excellent, by treating a polyolefin made porous body with fuming sulfuric acid or strong sulfuric acid, immersing this in a solution containing polyvinyl alcohol and sulfuric acid, and heating.
CONSTITUTION: Polypropylene nonwoven fabric whose porosity is about 60% is immersed in strong sulfuric acid containing 5% fuming sulfuric acid for about 7 minutes at a room temperature. The sulfuric acid is removed by means of a centrifugal separater, and water washed and dried. This fabric is immersed in a solution whose formation of a polyvinyl alcohol 7% solution and a doubly diluted strong sulfuric acid solution has a volume ratio of 1:1, and a surplus solution is removed and heating and drying are camed out. A separater is obtained after water washing and drying. A sealed nickel-hydrogen storage battery is constituted by using a well-known bubble type nickel pole filled with nickel hydroxide powder, cobalt powder and nickel powder, as the positive electrode, and a paste type MmNi hydrogen storage alloy electrode as the negative electrode. For an electrolytic liquid, a caustic potash solution having the specific gravity of 1.30 into which lithium hydroxide of 30g/l is dissolved, is used. The battery is of an SubC type.
