PURPOSE: To improve the selective permeability of a high polymer membrane having a microphase separating structure by using a separation membrane obtained by allowing a high polymer membrane selectively permeable to a component to carry a liquid membrane which dissolves selectively at least one of the components in a liquid mixture.
CONSTITUTION: The high polymer membrane consists of a high polymer component showing an affinity for only one component of a liquid mixlture to be separated and a high polymer component having a microphase separating structure and showing no affinity for the components other than said component and the liquid membrane component. The membrane is constituted of a graft copolymer. When 2-hydroxylethylacrylate to be formed into a plate polymer is polymerized by radical polymerization in the presence of a polymer shown by formula II obtained by introducing a nitrophenyl group as a functional group for terminating the radical polymerization into a trunk polymer (formula I ), the radical polymerization is terminated by the phenyl group to obtain a Z-hydroxylethyl acrylate (graft)-acrylonitrile(trunk) graft copolymer.
