Title:
SEPARATION OF NEPTUNIUM AND PLUTONIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3050359
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily separate neptunium and plutonium without generating secondary waste liquor.
CONSTITUTION: A nitric acid mixed soln. of neptunium/plutonium is subjected to photooxidation by irradiation with UV in the presence of a reducing agent. Since the valence of the neptunium is adjusted so that all of the neptunium is converted into water-soluble pentavalent neptunium and the valence of the plutonium is adjusted so that the plutonium is converted into tetra- or hexavalent plutonium extractable in an org. phase, these metals are easily separated.
