To provide a separation and recovery method which selectively, at a high recovery rate, recovers useful rare element FP contained in a spent nuclear fuel (platinum group element (Ru, Rh, Pd), Ag, Tc, Se, Te), and to provide a nuclear power generation-fuel cell power generation coexistence system which utilizes the recovered useful rare element FP.
A nitric solution, which is to be processed, containing useful rare element FP in a spent nuclear fuel is electrolytically reduced using Pd2+ or Fe2+ as catalyst. After the rare element FP is collectively precipitated on an electrode, the precipitation on the electrode is collectively dissolved by electrolytic oxidation. Then the precipitation solution is sequentially electrolytically reduced in low current density, medium current density, and high current density, so as to be separated and precipitated into Ag.Pd group, Se.Te group, and Ru.Rh.Tc group, for fractional recovery. The recovered useful rare element FP is utilized as a catalyst for producing/refining an electrode material or hydrogen fuel for a fuel cell, to present the coexistence system of nuclear power generation and fuel cell power generation.
