Title:
SEPARATION AND RECOVERY OF RIBITOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3719309
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate, etc., for medicines and agrochemicals by culturing a ribitol-producing microorganism in an aqueous culture medium under aerobic conditions, removing a microbial cell and adding a specific alcohol to the supernatant to deposit crystals.
SOLUTION: A ribitol-producing microorganism (e.g. Trichosporonoides, megachiliensis CBS 567.85) is cultured in an aqueous culture medium under aerobic conditions and a microbial cell is removed from the culture medium and slaked lime is added to the resultant supernatant and carbon dioxide is blown into the solution and impurities other than sugar which coexists in the supernatant are absorbed into an insoluble metal salt and removed by filtration and a 1-3C alcohol (e.g. methanol) is added to the supernatant and ribitol crystal is deposited to efficiently separate and recover the objective ribitol. Furthermore, ribitol receives the attention as not only sugar constituting living things, but also as an intermediate raw material, etc., for medicines and agrochemicals.
