To provide a separator for an airtight lead storage battery having excellent short circuit resistance between a cathode and an anode plate such as an electrochemical short circuit by penetration of lead and the like, bending strength and resistance to repetitive bending and tear strength, easy processability to a bag shaped separator, and no detachment of an active material from the side, and to provide the airtight lead storage battery using the separator for the airtight lead storage battery having a high output and capacity, excellent stability in battery performance, and a long life.
The separator for an airtight lead storage battery comprises a fine glass fiber 1 as a main component, an inorganic powder 3, a beaten and loosened natural pulp 2, and a heat fusible organic fiber 4. The heat fusible organic fiber 4 has fineness of 1.5 denier or less, fiber length of 1 mm or more, and content of from 3 to 15 wt.%.
