To provide a polyolefinic fiber coating agent for a separator suitably used for an alkaline storage battery and a separator for an alkaline storage buttery using the coating agent.
This separator for an alkaline storage battery comprises a polyolefinic fiber coated with a water-soluble epoxy crosslinking agent having an alkyl group reformed polyvinyl alcohol on the surface and at least two epoxy groups in the molecule. The alkyl group modified polyvinyl alcohol has 0.1 to 10 mol.% of 3-20c alkyl groups of the total amount of a hydroxyl group and an acetate group, 200 to 3500 of a polymerization degree, and 88 to 100 mol.% of a saponification degree. The water-soluble epoxy crosslinking agent is 0.5 to 10 wt.% to the alkyl group modified polyvinyl alcohol and is a glycerol diglycidyl ether and/or a glycerol triglycidyl ether.
