To provide a separator of stainless steel for a fuel cell with high-polymer electrolyte in which a layer of sulfur compound of silver is formed on the surface of the base of separator.
The separator for the fuel cell with high-polymer electrolyte is made of stainless steel, and an anti-corrosive silver plating film having a high tight attaching property is formed directly on this separator of stainless steel, and even if an acidic water permeates during the operation through pinholes in the silver plating film, there is no risk that the tight attachment of the silver plating film is degraded by corrosion of the stainless steel because of high anti-corrosiveness of stainless steel itself, and further sulfur compound of silver to heighten the anti-corrosiveness of silver is formed on the surface of the silver plating film, and in the case an conductive organic film is formed thereon, the sulfur compound of silver heightens the bonding performance of the silver to the conductive organic film, so that it is possible to suppress increase of the contact resistance still more effectively and maintain a high power generating efficiency. Because the silver plating film is as thin as below 10 μm and is formed directly on the stainless steel, the processes can be simplified and the costs be suppressed.
