To separate cable coating materials into insulating materials and conductive or semiconductive materials for the effective use of resources.

A separator is equipped with a waste tank 1 for receiving granules 2 of waste cable coating material, a jet loader 5 for transporting the granules 2 in the tank 1 into a hopper 3, a belt conveyer 10 installed right under the hopper 3, needle-shaped electrodes 13 arranged close to the end of the belt conveyer 10, a grounded rotary drum 12 installed below the electrodes 13, and tanks 14-16 placed in parallel below the rotary drum 12. Insulating granules 17 falling from the belt conveyer 10 are charged by the corona discharge from the electrodes 13, by the electrostatic effect with the rotary drum 12, the falling loci of the insulating granules 17 and semiconductive granules are different from each other, and respective granules are recovered separately in prescribed recovery tanks 14.
