Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize organic-inorganic hybrid nano structures having a far wider surface area than conventional ones by using sericin, a protein not used too much among components of silkworm cocoons.SOLUTION: Hybrid structures precipitate from a PBS solution of sericin and copper sulfate, the hybrid structures each having a size of about several μm. The hybrid structures as a whole form a shape like a rose flower, and portions thereof corresponding to flower petals have a structure formed of a laminate of nanosheets with copper sulfate forming the skeleton. These structures have a far wider surface area than conventional analogous materials and can be prepared in a shorter time. Furthermore, they can absorb and remove heavy metal ions in a solution efficiently due to their wide surface area and hybrid structure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
