PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new peptide comprising an antigenic determinant site which is a seroreactive epitope in an E7 protein of a human papillomavirus 18 containing a specific amino acid sequence and useful for the prophylaxis, diagnosis, treatment, etc., of diseases caused by the above virus.
SOLUTION: This new peptide comprises an antigenic determinant site which is a seroreactive epitope in an E7 protein of a human papillomavirus 18 represented by one of amino acid sequences of formulae I and II and is useful as an assistance, etc., for the prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of anogenital benign lesions, maligant tumor, etc. of a uterine neck, the penis and the vagina which are diseased caused by the human papillomavirus 18. The peptide is obtained by ultrasonically shearing a human papillomavurus 18 DNA, treating the resultant fragment with a DNase, connecting the prepared fragment to a phage expression vector, preparing a shotgun expression bank, screening the resultant shotgun expression bank with a monoclonal antibody, etc., and integrating the obtained E7 protein gene into a vector, transducing the gene into Escherichia coli, etc., and expressing the gene.
