Abstract:

To provide a biologically active serum-derived factor (SDF) having a low molecular weight, electrically charged at an acidic pH, and having absorption at 280 nm, to provide a method for isolating the same, and to provide a pharmaceutical composition formed out of the same.

This SDF or its complex with ceruloplasmin (CP) has several kinds of therapeutically useful characteristics. The SDF or its complex with the CP induces final cell differentiation on leukemic cells, makes the cells lose their proliferation activity and their cellular self-regeneration activity, inhibits stimulation for initial proliferation of normal precursor cells and exaltation of neovascularization, and subjects normal stem cells and precursor cells to ex vivo proliferation. The pharmaceutical composition contains the SDF or the complex as an active ingredient.
