PURPOSE: To equip a sewing machine with a bobbin thread residual amount/ necessary amount comparing function which can make a warning indication when the residual amount has become smaller than the necessary amount by performing comparison of the residual amount with the necessary amount for each sewing pattern when patterning takes place.
CONSTITUTION: One or more patterns are selected by a pattern selecting means 2, and the actual bobbin thread residual amount wound on a bobbin thread holding means sensed by a sensing means 5 is compared by a bobbin thread residual amount/necessary amount comparing means 12 with the necessary amount for each pattern selected. When the actually remaining amount becomes smaller than the necessary amount, a warning indication means 13 gives notice that the bobbin thread is in shortage.
