To improve stitch quality by reducing the length of the remaining cut end of a needle thread on the side where the thread is sewn to a sewn object.
A compound feed sewing machine 1 includes an upper feed mechanism, a lower feed mechanism, a needle feed mechanism, a presser foot mechanism, a thread-cutting mechanism, a thread wiper mechanism, and an air blower device 90 as a blowing mechanism. The end of a nozzle 92 for blowing air compressed by a pressurizer 91 is directed to the vicinity of the lower end of a sewing needle 12 positioned at the top dead center. After a sewing needle 12 and an upper feed foot 14 are stopped at the top dead center at the final stitch, thread cutting by the thread-cutting mechanism and thread wiping by a wiper 73 of the thread wiper mechanism are sequentially performed, and the cut end of the needle thread is wiped between a presser foot 20 and the upper feed foot 14. Thereafter, the air blower device 90 is operated to blow compressed air to the vicinity of the lower end of the sewing needle 12 to blow and wipe the cut end of the needle thread above the upper feed foot 14.
