The belt loop is sewn onto the cloth by a first bar tack K1 formed near the tip of one end of the belt loop and a second bar tack K3 formed near a folded-back position. The sewing machine 10 further includes: storage sections 83 and 84 for storing a length b from the first bar tack sewing position to the second bar tack sewing position and a length A from the second bar tack sewing position to a target sewing position at the lower edge of a waist band; and a control section 80 for performing, based on storage data in the storage sections, operation control for forming the seams of the first bar tack and the second bar tack and forming a positioning seam K5 at the target sewing position at the lower side edge of the waist band.
