PURPOSE: To decrease fuel consumption in a shaft kiln-type cold iron melting furnace for melting pig iron, scrap iron, chip, etc., by improving combustion efficiency.

CONSTITUTION: Air is blown in a furnace from tuyeres 4 in the form of swirl by providing a swirler 5 provided with swirling vanes 5a radially provided to the center in the radial direction of the tuyeres 4 and inclined at 45° in the flowing direction of air to flow into the tuyeres 4 in the tuyeres 4 on the upper stage side out of tuyeres on the upper and lower stages through which air is blown in a furnace main body 2 of a shaft kiln-type cold iron melting furnace 1, and air to be blown in and atmosphere in the furnace are effectively mixed to each other, thereby, combustion efficiency is improved and fuel consumption can be saved.
