PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a primary seal part and a secondary seal part to be lubricated and cooled in a superior manner.SOLUTION: In a shaft seal having an adjustable seal structure, an extremity end portion 21 of a seal case 2 is protruded into a shaft seal part housing 1, and seal liquid 6 is circulated and supplied into a liquid seal region C through seal liquid supply or discharging passages 71, 72 formed at base end portions 22, 23 of the seal case 2. An inner peripheral surface of the seal case 2 is formed with an annular recess part 73 communicated with seal liquid discharging passage 72. A seal liquid feeding ring 74 is arranged between a primary seal 4 and a secondary seal 5 and fixed at a rotary shaft 3. A seal liquid feeding ring 74 is formed with a communicating hole 74c for communicating between seal liquid regions C1, C2 at both sides. An outer peripheral surface of the seal liquid feeding ring 74 is formed with a plurality of recess grooves 74b opened at an end surface of the primary seal 4. The inner peripheral surface of the seal case 2 is formed with a tapered surface 75 of which diameter is gradually expanded from a position opposing against the primary seal portions 41a, 43a to the annular recess part 73.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
